Total Eclipse and Vista are compatible. However, some of the support programs and OS functions that Eclipse accesses do not work right and are listed below. Therefore, we do not recommend upgrading to Vista immediately. As with any new OS, there will be some bugs that need to be worked out. So, let somebody else work out those bugs and then upgrade once Vista has been out there for a bit. Some of the problem areas we have discovered apply only to the 64-bit version of Vista. Others apply to both 32- and 64-bit versions. The following apply to BOTH the 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Vista: - Macros don't work until you change security options We will be able to walk you through the steps necessary for changing these options. - Record/play mixer doesn't execute You can't use the "Levels" buttons in Eclipse to adjust playback or record levels. You have to use the OS methods of changing the levels. That will involve trips to the control panel or use of the volume icon on the taskbar. - PDF Creator doesn't work Users wanting to create PDFs will have to use another PDF writer for now. Below are issues that only affect the 64-bit version of Vista. The 32-bit version does NOT have these issues. - File types not registering icons Not a critical issue, but annoying. You won't see the note file, text file and dictionary icons for .not, .ecl and .dix files when you look in Windows Explorer or even the Eclipse file manager since these icons are loaded from the OS in order to support icons for non-Eclipse files. - Speex codec doesn't work This means the current Visualizers will not work in Vista. Keith is already working on Visualizers that use a different codec. If you use SPEEX for audio sync, you will need to use a different codec. - USB-Serial devices don't work That, obviously, is a big problem, and it's something we can't do anything about but wait for the device manufacturers to come out with new drivers. - Modem setup doesn't work Going to User settings/Realtime/Output/selecting a modem and Setup results in nothing happening. It's supposed to bring up a modem configuration dialog. We may be able to fix this or come up with some alternate solution, but for now it means that captioners can't use Vista 64. Regarding dual core processors, we are continuing to investigate this. At this point, although some users have reported problems, we are not able to say definitively that the dual core processors are connected with or causing the problems.
